  • Larvae chews the leaves of small grains and grasses and flowers.
  • Cause damage to crops through defoliation ( the premature removal of grassy parts of plant such as leaves.

Red Spider Mite

  • It promoted silk and spent its time beneath the leaf of the plant protected by its silken web.
  • It can live slightly more than a moth.
  • It feeds on citrus and other fruits, melons, tomatoes, beans, wheat, cotton etc.
  • Very small can can go undetected until serious damage is done to the plant.
    • Disruption of photosynthesis leads to stunted growth and lower yield.
  • It has piercing mouth parts which it uses to suck up the cells content from the leaves.
  • At first pale dots appear on the leaf
    Eventually the leaf may turn yellowish brown and drop off, may curl or stunted.

Leaf Minor

  • This larvae chew through seeds, roots, and stems causing devastating damage to crops.
  • Targets beans, citrus, peas, cucumber, potatoes, tomatoes (tuta absoluta or Belinda).
  • Larvae mine between upper and lower leaf surfaces. They create winding whitish tunnels that are narrow in the beginning but widens has larvae grows. This is what causes leaves to dry out resulting in reduction of quantity or yield.
  • Excessive larvae damage on young plants and seedlings causes the ti die due to lack of chlorophyll and reduces photosynthesis

Diamond Back Moth

Cabbage and broccoli are preferred host of this pest but it also attacks other Cole family crops

  • Feeds on mostly outer or older leaves of old plants, chewing out small holes, or at the growing points of the young plants.
  • Feeds on floral stalks and flower buds
  • Late stage crown into stems infesting the harvested potion crops
